MODULE 1 GENERAL DIDACTICS

MODULE I
WHAT IS DIDACTICS
Didactics is a field of pedagogy that deals with theories, ideas, principles and instructions directed at successful conduction of educational process.
Didactics uses theoretical models developed in philosophy, psychology and sociology, as well as different pedagogical theories , and especially theoretical models of teaching and learning.
Older didactical concepts were directed towards teaching and the teacher, while newer concepts concentrate more on the student and the learning process.
Successful teaching requires knowledge of student characteristics and learning methods, to which teaching approaches and methods have to be adapted.
Instruction and teaching are also observed from the aspect of communication and as a social process in which students, teacher and wider social environment participate, and in which they use certain communication media which transfer certain educational content and enable social interaction and exchange of information among the participants of instruction.
Pedagogy includes upbringing and education during childhood and adolescence, as well as adult education or andragogy. Didactics is related to the part of pedagogy which deals with the educational process in school and extra-curricular institutions.
Didactics is usually divided into the part which deals with general patterns, conditions and consequences of educational process, and a special section which usually studies the following areas:
- goals and mission of education;
- dynamics of educational process;
- social forms and conditions of educational process;
- communication medium in education;
- educational climate;
- communication in educational process.
Didactics is also divided into the so called special didactics or teaching methods, among which fall the teaching methods of specific instructional areas.

A lot of attention has been paid lately to didactics of e-education which relies on application possibilities of internet technologies and suitablemodels of instructional design. Earlier roots of e-education didactics have been programmed learning and computer based instruction.

Please, read the above paragraph about Didactics and write briefly what you understood. Thank you.  (group of three-3)

Please,watch the video and write your comments. (group of 3)

WHAT IS LEARNING PROCESS:

Learning is a complex psychological activity

Learning is a complex process dealt with the most in pedagogy and psychology. Different learning theories also deal with that issue. Some of them will be briefly described on these pages.

Learning is an activity of an individual, which results in the acquisition of certain knowledge, skills and habits.

Results of learning can be related to development of abilities in cognitiveaffective and psycho-motorfield.
Learning is a broader term than education or teaching. Didactics, as a branch of pedagogy, deals with organized and purposeful learning processes.
A significant part of an individual's learning, which is not a part of didactics, is accidental, unconscious, not purposeful and unorganized. However,accidental or unconscious learning processes also contribute to an individual's knowledge and education.
By learning, we acquire certain knowledge, but also attitudes and values.
Attitudes are acquired tendencies to react in a certain way to someone or something.
Values are deep convictions which direct our behaviour, opinions and how we perceive other individuals according to some basic characteristics of their environment.
Values are related to material and spiritual area of an individual's social life, their natural environment, ethics, morals etc.

For example a participant can have certain attitudes toward learning, but they can also value education as a more or less important factor of their own personal development.

There is more than one level of knowledge acquisition
Levels of knowledge that an individual acquired through the learning process manifest in several basic ways, depending on the level of the acquired knowledge and the possibility to use it in practice:
recognition is the possibility to identify facts and phenomena that an individual has encountered before (e.g. recognizing the correct answers in a multiple choice question);
recollection and reproduction are related to the possibility to independently recollect and reproduce (out loud, in writing or otherwise) some previously acquired content (e.g. historical facts);
problem solving in the narrow field of specific previously acquired knowledge (e.g. mathematical calculations, chemical analyses, development of computer programs etc.);
managing and adapting to new situations is related to problem definition in new situations, finding a way to solve problems, creative approach and innovation in application of previously acquired knowledge, as well as to adapting of the environment to your needs and goals while taking into consideration social, ethical, ecological and other values.

Behaviourist approach to learning process was developed in the first half of the 20th century. According to behaviourism, learning is related to creating associations between certain stimuli and the reaction of the organism. Behaviourism showed the important role of reward in the learning process. If reactions to certain stimuli are rewarded, these reactions appear more often.  If there is no reward for a certain reaction, they will be extinguished or become more and more rare.
Cognitive approach to learning also started in the first half of the 20th century and is mostly based on theoretical principles about the development of cognitive schemes or thinking structures which present certain inner or outer processes. Learning is related to acquiring new schemes and adaptation of the old ones to new needs. Assimilation is a process in which experience is turned into inner conceptions and new schemes which are so shaped to fit in with the existing knowledge.Accommodation is a process of adaptation and changing the existing schemes in order to be able to accept new experience. For effectiveteaching by using cognitive theories it is important, among other things, to determine beforehand the type and the level of development of the schemes the students already possess and shape the process and the content in such way that these schemes keep developing, changing, and being supplemented. A scheme an individual possesses during their development becomes more and more rich, complex and structured.

Problem based learning is more applicable than other types of learning

In addition to these approaches to learning process which are more oriented on information acquisition,learning process can also be viewed as problem solving. From the multitude of information in their environment it is more likely that the students will notice and use those which enable them to fulfil certain needs and/or solve problems which they are dealing with. The process of solving a problem has positive effect of identification and differentiating between useful and useless information, memorizing the ones necessary for the students to solve a problem, as well asdevelopment of skills through planning and memorizing the problem-solving strategy. Teaching can, therefore, be improved if it is in the form of a problem-solving activity.
Through analogy to the work of a computer learning can be seen as information processing. Memory can be divided into sensory memory, as well as long and short-term memory. Sensory memory stores information registered by different senses for a very short period (approximately 1 second). The information that has been paid attention to is then transferred to short-term or primary memory. The capacity of short-term memory is usually limited to 5-7 elements (notions, pictures etc.). The information stored in short-term memory can be consciously considered by the students, who can then plan and form their reaction. When teaching you should adapt the quantity of information to the limitations of the short-term memory and encourage activities which enhance information transition from short-term or primary memory to long-term or secondary memory. Analysis, application and/or repetition of information in short-term memory, increases the probability of their permanent storage in long-term memory.
As one of cognitive learning theories in e-education, constructivist approach to learning is very popular. According to that approach knowledge is formed through the student activity, and learning process consists of(re)organization of schemes through which a student represents certain elements in their physical and social environment. Since students themselves gather and "construct" their knowledge, teachers should serve as no more than guidance in that process. The teacher's task is to insure the necessary information sources and other materials with the help of which students will build their knowledge through their own activity. Knowledge is gathered in social context, which makes the group and wider social context in which the student is gathering knowledge very important for the learning process. In time teachers try to make the students independent, since the students have to learn how to learn on their own. In order to apply this teaching model in practice it is important to encourage the shaping of new notions or constructs in students' minds, which can be related to previously acquired schemes and built into complex structures based on cognitive and practical experience of student activity.

    • The existence of a relevant issue.
    • Specificity of this problem.

    'The need for science education for all.
    'The school failure and negative attitudes toward science.

    Reductionism of teaching to a "practical dimension" of psychology.

    How does it happen?
    Historically their strength in the prescriptive and normative character that permeated birth and served to "direct" teaching. But this broad scope was also his conviction. The exaggerated tendency to prescribe which reaches its climax with the term in the technology model, the regulatory zeal without considering the specific practices.

    Where from?
    The Teaching is a science that appears in the year 1657, when a Protestant teacher named John Amos Comenius throwing a book called "Teaching Magna". The upper classes had access to art, politics, philosophy and history and were learning trades lower-middle classes in the workshops. Comenius raises what is the ideal or Comenian pansophic utopia: that we must "teach everything to everyone" and proposes a set of rules, guidelines or standards which shows how.

    So that arise?
    To achieve the organization of the school, and thus make it possible to reach pansophic ideal, a series of "hard devices" is proposed, which give structure and mark the boundaries of the learning process

  10. Refers to an improvement in information and that can only lead to knowledge.
    Now, knowledge is very important in didactics I believe because it’s a key goal to learning
    Didactic forms or processes are to be taught in a curriculum and this in turn will affect the individual des-childhood to adulthood in their thinking and proceed.
    Didactic study areas usually affecting the individual in its formation and intellectual process and media.
    Know is important to identify the division called special educational or didactic teaching methods that fall between the teaching methods of teaching specific areas.

    That instruction and teaching is observed from the aspect of communication , as a social process in which the environment take part of it.

    -Goals and mission
    -Dinamic
    -Social and conditions in the process
    -Communicatio media and communication in the process
    -Education climate
    -We can say that learning is a wider concept compare with teaching or education.
    -Another thing to mention is that the result of learning is related to the development of abilities , in cognitive, affective and psyco-motorfield.
    -The level of knowledge can be manifest in this process in recognition , recollction and reproduction , problem solving, managing and adapting to new situations.
    -Also there are some approaches in the learning process , like the role of reward in behaviorism.
    - Or the cognitive approach, based on the mental or cognitive, scheme and adaptation to the new changes.
    -Learning can be as a problem solving.
    -Another approach is constructivism in which the student is learning through an activity , the teacher , serve as guide to built their knowledge with their own activity.

  24. This's our coment about the video.
    It can be seen that the general teaching is the art that you need the teacher to teach and impart knowledge to the student, in times past the student was educated according to their social status, whether it was high class could study and learn the best but if was lower class could only learn to survive but Juan Comenius better momentum theory in which the study should be equal for both the upper class to the lower class.
    The curriculum is taught in school must be linked with what is taught in the home as it is in society where you will see the result of learning in these institutions, the teacher must have a good relationship with the student and parent family functioning to better learning.

Didactics uses different theorical models for its effectiveness.  Through time Didactic has concentrated in new concepts . For successful teaching in students teachers must know their characteristics and learning methods. Didactics studies others áreas such as goals and missions of education, dynamic of educational process, communication in education among others. Didactics is very important because it seeks to develop its teaching techniques and methods.

    First of all in this interesting video we could find the concept of didactics, its divisions, classifications and functions of teaching strategies, the relationship between curriculum and didactics, competitions ( sets of knowledge), historical sources, games simulation, techniques such as dramatization (to be better understood).

    Anyway this video has interesting information to enrich our knowledge. Even though It has some blurry images, has a lot of examples (some repeated) and it’s very striking. Its relaxing music helped us in reading.

    Learning process is a process that people pass through to acquire new knowledge and skills and ultimately influence their attitudes. Activities carried out to achieve educational objectives. They are carried out individually althoug this takes place in a cultural and social context,in wich people combine their new knowledge with their previos cognitive structures.

    - Behaviorist approach to learning process is based on the idea that learners respond to stimuli in their environment.The role of the learning facilitator,therefore is to provide relevant and useful stimuli so that the learner responds to and gains the required knowledge or experience.

    -Cognitive approach to learning are concerned with the role of the active mind in processing learning opportunities and developing. The tutor and participant both engage with knowledge.

    -Constructivist approach to learning is an approach suggesting that children must construct their own understandings of the world in which they live.

    Didactis is a branch of pedagogy, its main objective is an educational process of quality and effective using technics, ideas and special theories based in other sciences like psicology, sociology and other branches that study the human being. It's important to know that didactics is not a New resource it I'd an old educational process that changes through the years to improve their technics and adapt it. At he begining didactic is focus on the teachers as the principal object of study but nowadays the focus of didactic is completely different. Now students are the key of educational process and teachers need to know the different ways of learning process of their students and adapt the class depending on the needs of students as we mentioned before.

    About the video:
    The video is very interesting it has to be been by many teachers as possible because it is very enriching to us. We can learn about techincs, tools and several things about the curriculum, and about parts of didactic. This video show us the given of knowledge.

    What is a learning process?
    A learning process is a process to learn something new, which someone gets. New knowledge. It consist of several mental process using methods and technics. This process is focus in psicology because there are many types of learning process but to understand it we have to know the subject of study. A learning process also include pedagogy. For this reasons a learning process sometimes could be complex.

    The behavioral approach is an automatic chain response. That is the association between stimulus and a reaction. For example a dog salivates because he knows that he is going to eat and he dog can imagine the reward before it happens.

    Cognitive approach: stated in the XX Century. It is focus on explain metal process through schemas.

    Cognitivist approach: schemas that represent internal process related to learning new knowledge.

    Summary

    This module was very interesting for me since I learned several pedagogical concepts and that means didactics that are theories, methodological ideas because they are part of an educational process that is teaching - learning.
    I also learned something that is important to know that teaching is the learning process that develops individually where new knowledge and skills are acquired that are put into practice in the extension of their needs.

  33. Summary
    This module shows me how important is didactics. I learned many definitions that are important in the field of education. I could understand that Didactis is art, techniques, theories, methods, ideas, principles for the process of teaching.
    Learning is the adquisition of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes as results of experience or studies. Learning has 3 domains that are cognitive (knowledge) affective (attitudes), psychomotor (skills).
    This process of learning has approaches:
    -Behaviourist approach to learning process:
    Behaviourism showed the important role of reward in the learning process. So for frequent reactions there must be rewards otherwise they will be extinguished.
    -cognitive approach to learning
    How information will be processed by learners. (Memory)
    -constructivist approach to learning
    Is the part dynamic through activities.
    Teachers give to their student information and material for building their own activity and construc knowledge for their experience. Also with this approach they develop social and communication skills. With this information adquired I can say didactics is very important for giving classes I mean, It is necessary to have given this subject before teaching since sometimes there are students who teach since their first year of bachelor degree and could be difficult because they have not given this subject.

  34. Please, read the above paragraph about Didactics and write briefly what you understood
    Personally believe that didactica is an important branch of pedagogy that deals with theories, ideas, principles and instructions. aimed at the successful conduct of the educational process in the classroom, I personally think that this branch helps to form the dynamic character of the students, as it helps to motivate the learning process.
    I was also able to learn that general Didactica is generally divided into the part that deals with the general patterns, conditions and consequences of the educational process.
    in this way my summary and my general opinion of this important branch of pedagogy (General Didactics) is fundamental when it comes to training teachers, we as future teachers should know the importance of it, as I mentioned in the previous commentary.

    Please, watch the video and write your comments.
    looking at the video I could see that there were explanatory images, about the concept of didactics and I could also observe that didactica is based on strategies that a teacher acquires at the time of his training, so that he could apply it when it comes to teaching the students. to make your education process complete and effective, and also show skills to call attention to students, create entertaining and educational classes, not create classes and topics so boring so that the student wants to participate in classes.

    what is learning process?
    Learning is a complex process dealt with the most in pedagogy and psychology. Different learning theories also deal with that issue. Some of them will be briefly described on these pages.
    Learning is an activity of an individual, which results in the acquisition of certain knowledge, skills and habits. Results of learning can be related to development of abilities in cognitive, affective and psycho-motorfield.
    4- Describe briefly the followings:
    Behaviourist approach to learning process: Learning is related to the creation of associations between certain stimuli and the reaction of the organism. The behavior demonstrated the important role of the reward in the learning process. If reactions to certain stimuli are rewarded, these reactions appear more often. If there is no reward for a particular reaction, they will become extinct or become increasingly rare.
    Cognitive approach to learning: it is based mainly on theoretical principles on the development of cognitive schemes or thought structures that present certain internal or external processes. Assimilation is a process in which experience becomes internal conceptions and new schemes that are designed to adapt to existing knowledge.
    c. constructivist approach to learning: In accordance with that approach, knowledge is formed through the student's activity, and the learning process consists of (re) organizing schemes through which a student represents certain elements in his physical and social environment. Students gather and "build" their knowledge, teachers should only serve as a guide in that process.

    1. Cognitive approach is one of the most interesting for me personally I feel that this we can apply our knowledge and learn to improve and correct small errors, although this is more for advanced levels, this I feel personally because it is based on building longer ideas and with longer sentences at the time of speaking and correcting the language.

    Write a Short summary about this topic
    In this work I could understand the great importance of didactics for my better understanding with video and making use of reading.
    Didactics shows us and guides us to be better teachers to know the use and importance of learning and the approach it should have depending on the situation or age of each student. A teacher should be a guide and facilitator for the student's to accompany him in his first level of learning and then give them a little push so that they themselves are responsible for their own learning by making them see their abilities and skills. They should be responsible and gather good information provided by teachers.
    As well as the competences of knowledge know know and know

    1.what is learning process?
    So learning process by which it's mainly in pedagogy and psychology.
    So learning can also be described as the process through which an individual goes through to obtain new knowledge, skills and good habits.
    Thus it's related to the development to knowledge and skills in the cognitive affective and psychomotor fields.
    From the term learning we can obtain the term learn which is very broad in education and teaching that allows us as teachers to learn as much from our students as they learn from us.
    It's important to mention that didactics as a branch and pedagogy is concerned with proving us with organizaded and determined learning processes.
    2.describe briefly the following:
    A. Behaviourist approach to learning process:
    It's developed in the first half of the twentieth century.
    We can say that behaviorism and learning is related to the creation of certain associations between certain stimulation.
    Behaviorism was shown as the important reward role in the learning process for a particular reaction would be extinguished and may become the case that is increasingly strange.
    B. Cognitive approach to learning:
    Also that the behavioral approach began in the first half of the twentieth century.
    And it's based mainly on the theoretical principles on the development of cognitive schemes or structures pf through certain internal or external processes are presented.
    Learning is related to the acquisition of new schemes qnd the adaption of old ones to new needs.
    C. Constructivism approach to learning:
    In accordance with this knowledge approach, it's formed thought the student's activity and learning process.
    It's consists in the organization of schemes through which a student represents certain elements in his physical and social environment.
    The teacher's task is to ensure and provide sources of necessary information along with other materials with the help of which the student develops his knowledge and skills though his own creativity. Over time, teacher's try to make independent student's , since they have a duty to learn alone.
    Please Watch the video and write your opinion;
    At the begging of the video we could see the division. Of didactics to understand their best study.
    General didactics: this applies to the age or characteristics of each person.
    It's shows that didactics is also the teaching implies learning theory and practice that are inseparable from each other.
    We cab learn from the use of teaching model's techniques and strategies to apply to our future students. It's also important to emphasize the curriculum that is the most visible and explicit part of the teaching.
    The curriculum is considered as a field projection of didactics.

    WHAT IS DIDACTICS?
    In my opinion and after read this module, I learned that didactics is one of the most important part during the educational process. Didactics is a tool for teachers and makes the education better, because there are some factors that help to develop practical, formal and sensory skills in the learners, for example: Didactics determined the different styles of learning, how the age impacts in the educational process and how use methods depending of the students. Didactic is focus in improve the quality of the learning process using technics and methods and some studies that comes from other branches related with education and the human behavior as sociology to know how the humans work in the society and how it affects their learning process. Didactics work depending of students need and special necessities, that’s why there are many advices of how to teach depending of the learning styles of students. Other important aspect of what didactics means is about the learning environment. Didactics prepared the environment and materials to make the learning process comfortable and efficient. This process and the different technic use in didactic change at the same time the society changes because it is a permanent and social process that works with individual needs.
    OPINION ABOUT VIDEO
    In this module I saw an interesting video, it is about curriculum and parts of didactics, when I saw the video I didn’t understand many things like the real meaning of curriculum and its relation with education, so I surfed in the internet and for my surprise curriculum is strongly related with education. Curriculum organize the education by grades and tries to build a strong guide for teachers in how, when and what teach, depending of the world need. In the other hand the video also show us what is didactics and when it starts, teaching us that didactics in not new. Didactics started with the philosophy and psychology and then changed its main objective because at the beginning didactics was focus in the teachers and students had to adapt depending of teachers, now it is very different, teachers have to adapt their classes depending of their students.
    WHAT IS A LEARNING PROCESS
    Learning process is the steps and how you do to reach your educational objective. It is important to mention that the learning process is not focus in the new learning. Must of the time the learning process can modified the existing knowledge and also help to acquiring new. It has to be about the organization to acquire formal knowledge or informal knowledge, sometimes using technics and methods.
    WHAT I LEARNED IN MODULE 1?
    As I mentioned before I learned how didactics starts, what is curriculum and its importance in education, I also learn the meaning of learning process and how the different concepts are changing, for example the l learned that didactic change, before it was focus in the teachers, how they teach and what they need to do it. Nowadays this idea is completely different, teachers are not the center of education. Education depends of students, now we as teachers need to learn and study our students to know how they learn (learning styles) and what they need, trying to teach in an individual way, but based in the society and individual needs. Another thing I learn in this module were the different approaches, like the conductivism approach and also the cognitive approach, both approaches based in the students necessities.
